There is a moment at every live event when the doors are about to open, the artist is in the green room, the light rig hums overhead, and everyone on crew checks the same three things one last time. Most people never see that moment. On the 10th of July, our students were standing inside it.
Thaala Utsav, a celebration of rhythm, culture and community held in Bengaluru, was produced by The Velvet Desk Global Company, and a group of team I students were on ground with the crew, in TVD whites, lanyards on, working a real show with real stakes.

The part of the event nobody posts about
By the time an audience sees a stage like this one, hundreds of decisions have already been made: where the barricades go, how the artist moves from green room to stage, what happens if it rains, who answers when a vendor calls. Event management is the craft of making all of that invisible. Our students spent the day watching, and doing, exactly that.

Our students, on the inside
This is the part we are proudest of. Not students visiting an event as guests, but students inside the machinery of one: on the show floor while the room filled up, in the green room where the evening’s performers prepared, close enough to see how a production team actually behaves under pressure.

What a night like this teaches
Every student on this crew came back with the same three lessons. First, that an event runs on preparation, not adrenaline; the calmest person backstage is always the best prepared one. Second, that artists, vendors and audiences each need a different kind of handling, and you learn that by standing between them, not by reading about it. Third, that this industry rewards people who show up early, notice everything and stay useful, exactly the habits we grade our students on.
Each student who worked Thaala Utsav will also submit a full event report: the brief, their role, the people they met, a SWOT of the production, and what they would do differently. That report is graded. The event is the classroom.
Want your Mondays to look like this?
This is how team I teaches event management: real events, real crews, real responsibility, backed by classroom fundamentals and graded work. If you want a career that starts backstage instead of behind a desk, message us on WhatsApp or explore our courses at teami.org.
